Fashion week is back in Downtown Los Angeles. From Oct. 12 to 17, well known and chosen emerging designers will showcase their Spring 2010 Collection. Among them are Louis Verdad, Jerrel Scott, Oliver Tolentino, Elizabeth Mason to name a few. Events to meet and greet the designers are also scheduled. Los Angeles, CA - Actress Maria Bello will receive The Los Angeles Spirit Award For Style and Substance at ‘Elizabeth Mason, The Paper Bag Princess Vintage Couture Celebrates Valentino, The Last Emperor‘, for the closing night gala runway show for Downtown LA Fashion Week, taking place at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA on Thursday, October 15.
Bello, who is currently in production on the Adam Sandler comedy “Lake House” opposite Kevin James and co-starring Chris Rock and Salma Hayak and the John Wells drama “The Company Men” co-starring Ben Affleck, Kevin Costner and Tommy Lee Jones, will receive the prestigious award for her philanthropic work as well as her support of Los Angeles based fashion designers.

The visually spectacular show will be accented with ‘Valentino Red’ accoutrements from Mason’s own contemporary couture design collection, a selection of which will also be on display prior to the show during a meet and greet with the designer.

Maggie Barry Rock Siren Fall 2009 Collection

With rock n’ roll royalty including Perry Farrell and Terri Nunn in attendance, Los Angeles designer, Maggie Barry, debuted her Fall 09 “Rock Siren” collection at the IVAR on March 31, 2009. The collection was worn by models with attitude and a live band actually performed the runway music. New to the scene entertainer, ALEXANDRA, opened the show with WAY TOO MANY songs and childish dance moves, but all was forgiven once it started. “This collection personifies the “Rock Child” within all of us,” Maggie Barry said. Rock n’ roll is right! Skin tight leather corset-style tops detailed with chiffon were matched with sky-high heels. Sequined baby doll dresses reigned supreme dotted with silver studs. Gen Art and Boxeight kick off LA Fall fashion week 2009!!
Los Angeles, CA- Amidst all the issues and controversies regarding the state of fashion week here in Los Angeles ( this is the first time that IMG will not be handling the show), GenArt, in partnership with Boxeight, successfully kicked off and brought back the Fashion week here in LA LA land last Friday, March 13. Held at the historic Los Angeles Theatre, the downtown traffic did not stop the people from attending this much awaited event. Guests from the media, press, celebrities and fashion industry all rushed to get a glimpse of the fall preview collection. The show highlighted the works of these three LA leading designers: GRAI, RAQUEL ALLEGRA AND SOCIETY FOR RATIONAL DRESS. How many times have we seen magazines or websites feature models and designers in their articles?
Every week you will find images taken on the runway or picture of the latest ad showcasing the hippest trend in clothes and fashion. But have we ever thought of the person behind these top notch models? One thing is for sure, their acquired talents and skills are NOT available at the nearest shopping mall.
This is one of the reason why we decided to come up with this article. We want to introduce you to one of the top runway instructor in the country today and hopefully, this will give you a glimpse behind the scene of the models/runway industry.

Listening to the accounts of these models in meeting Michael Maddox for the first time and having their world go 180 degrees is awe inspiring. Stories of rejection and denial usually are not associated or talked about in the modeling world. We only see the glitz and glamour of the fashion industry but Michael Maddox has seen it all. He is a very good judge of character and he is very talented in seeing the good in people and bringing out the greatness in them.
These young men didn’t start off blazing away with their career but was discovered by Michael and was slowly transformed in who they are now as a person and as models. Cleavon spoke about Michael as his father figure. That is how Michael is, he instills the tough love a parent gives. Michael sees in every one of these young men his own son Brandon Rice who plays football at UC Davis. He wants them to succeed, he develops that tight bond, he passes on his wisdom, and he maintains that positive role model.
Michael Maddox is a genuine person. He cultivates his relationship with trust, love, and wisdom. Michael’s humilty blanketed the room when he said that it was an honor for him that the men in the room made an effort to find time from their busy schedule to be there. He admires that they didnt forget where they came from. And to quote Michael: “Fighting for mankind means a lot to me cause I never know what position I’ll be in tomorrow.” only shows his sincerity.
